I think we all could use a real estate investing tip or two

We all want to make money when buying a home. We search high and low for a nice house in our price range and probably plan to spruce it up a bit. Over the years, the piece of real estate will ideally increase in value. There’s not much worse than buying a home that decreases in worth as years pass. One way you can play it safe is by learning and understanding the real estate market prior to diving in. There are plenty of handy and helpful resources at your disposal. You simply have to know where to look for them. I think we all could use a real estate investing tip or two. After all, this is a BIG investment.

The very first home I purchased was in Salem, Oregon. Just before buying, I received a major real estate investing tip from my father. He told me to check the surrounding homes and neighborhoods for registered sex offenders. Now, I know what some of you may be thinking, and no I didn’t go door to door asking criminal histories. I simply got online and took advantage of the free county sex offender search. This website told me all sex offenders registered and living in my county. I was easily able to see which ones lived near the home I was about to purchase. There were none within a mile radius. I was definitely glad my father hit me with this crucial real estate investing tip. Otherwise I wouldn’t have done it. Anyway, I went ahead and purchased the home. I was stoked at how nice the neighborhood was. Just to give you an idea, here are some of the things I investigated prior to purchasing. The school systems were my first priority. You’ll also want to keep this in mind when investing in a three or four bedroom home. Clearly your buyer is going to have children, and that equals school systems. Secondly, I checked the local crime rate, which was good. Everyone wants to live in a safe area. Just hope things don’t go downhill. If the crime increases, it can affect the sale of your home. And finally, I scouted out the local amenities, shops and stores. Most people want these at their constant disposal.

Need another real estate investing tip? Pay close attention to the market. It clearly has its ups and downs. DON’T sell during a “buyer’s market” or you’re likely to lose a bundle. Remember your goal is to turn a profit. Sometimes that involves waiting it out.

Are you an investor? I think many of us are in some way or another. My father has always invested in art. He has an amazing collection throughout his home. This is a very prudent choice for the future if you ask me. This way he has something valuable to fall back on if things get rough during retirement. That’s never a bad plan. My brother on the other hand is a knife collector. He collects rare custom pieces and keeps them in a safe. This is also a wise choice. He intends to sell them in the future to other collectors and dealers. So, what is your investment routine? Maybe you’ve invested most of your hard-earned money into a wonderful home. This is not a bad plan by any means. Real estate has always proven successful if done right. Fortunately these days you can even get a helping hand with new-age real estate investment software. Now, if you get your hands on some quality and informative real estate investment software, you too can earn a pretty penny. It’s all about researching the right areas. Where do you think the most desirable places to live are? Well, that’s an easy one. Simply hop online and check it out. Cyberspace will quickly provide you with this year’s top ten places to live. Keeping an eye on web real estate sites

Here’s a big heads-up! If you’re in the market for buying a home, now’s the time. But, you don’t have to take my word for it. Just take a quick glance at the current web real estate listings. These prices are out of control. It certainly makes me wish that I had the extra funds to invest in another home. It would be awesome to purchase one now while the prices are in a slump, and then sell it a ways down the road. Talk about bringing home the bacon. A nice chunk of real estate will do the job nicely.

Recently I have been sorting through a number of areas for potential relocation. My wife and I think we want to move to a New England state, but we were never too sure about the cost of living. Now, if you’ve never made it up to New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Massachusetts, let me be the first to inform you; it’s not cheap. Much of the real estate up there is old. Often this can mean big bucks are involved. On the other hand, I do love the area up there. It’s beautiful and you get a nice taste of all four seasons. But, I do have to say that I prefer a freshly built home over one that was constructed in the 1600s. I’m not so hip to the past families living and dying in the house I’m about to occupy. I can certainly do without a bunch of ghosts. Anyway, recently I’ve noticed that the web real estate market has changed. Home prices are dropping significantly and it’s a buyer’s market all the way. If you are in search of an ideal house, you’d better start looking while the costs are down. These things always run in cycles, so don’t expect it to stay this way. Soon enough the real estate costs will be back up where they were. If you’d like to keep better track of this, simply use your computer and log into web real estate sites. You can see any and all residential listings at any time you please. You just pick the state and price range.

Keeping an eye out is key to finding that home of your dreams. Since new listings are added all the time, you should keep on top of your web real estate sites. Bookmark the ones that work best for you. This way you can easily navigate to areas you’re interested in. Be the first to know when a new house goes on the market in your desired location.

celebrity homes go up on the market

Celebrity Homes

I have seen episodes of some show on MTV that shows of celebrity homes. I believe it’s called MTV Cribs, but I’m not really sure. I only saw it a few times, and those times I caught it just because the television in my living room was left on that station. I thought they were neat homes, but I thought they were also a little over the top, even for celebrities. I can imagine, and I can only hope, that many of the ones not shown on this show are done a little more tastefully. There were some great ideas but there were also some that were taken so far to the extreme that the home didn’t even look like a home any longer.

Many celebrity homes are probably more elaborate than most of us mortals have for ourselves. I guess when you earn that kind of money; you can get whatever it is you want for your home. There’s nothing wrong with that. I can also understand some of them having theaters and even a bowling alley in their celebrity homes. When you get mobbed every single time you leave the house, who wants to take that chance just to see a movie? I know I wouldn’t want to deal with it all the time. It’s not even the fans that would bother me; it would probably be those photographers that got to me.

Celebrity homes are well guarded and they have elaborate alarms systems, at least they do if they are smart. Most fans are ordinary people and wouldn’t dream of stalking a celebrity to their home or even try to get in, but there are some loose nuts out there that would to do just that. This is why so many celebrity homes are surrounded by gates so large and so wide that you can’t even see the house they are protecting. Again, this is smart thinking!

On occasion, celebrity homes go up on the market. You can buy one if you have the cash, but most of us do not. Even some celebrities can’t afford celebrity homes, and that is because some become famous for reasons that don’t involved money. Think about the humble homes where people like Oprah, Elvis, or even a president came from. These might be the most valuable celebrity homes you can find. There is something inspiring about coming from nothing to have everything that keeps the American dream alive.

Although that month to month rental agreement may have looked good

No one forgets the time they finally moved out of their parent’s home. They were stoked at the possibilities. Suddenly the entire world was laid out before them and they could just taste the freedom. Yeah, I remember it all quite clearly. Then something hit me. How in God’s name was I going to pay for everything, and why didn’t anyone tell me there would be so many bills? I had the month to month rental agreement, the phone bill, car insurance, food, and even cable. This stunk! I was broke and barely getting by. At that point my old bedroom back home was looking ideal. But, life doesn’t work that way. We can’t lounge about in our parents’ home forever. Did I mention the security deposit you have to put down when you rent? ARG!

Get ready for some stress. This comes standard when you reach adulthood. I never had a drop of it as a child, but once I stepped into the real world, the stress monster attacked with full power. I was suddenly worried about my month to month rental agreement and losing my apartment. After all, what if I couldn’t pay rent next month? That would mean living like a bum in cardboard boxes and eating out of trash cans. I simply couldn’t handle the stress of it all. That’s when I decided to get a roommate. I was occupying a two bedroom apartment at the time. Getting a roommate just made sense. This pulled a heavy load off my shoulders. I was no longer burdened with paying a fat month to month rental agreement every month. Now it was only half. However, this can get hairy if you have a poor or lazy roommate. What if he/she decides not to pay? That could also mean eviction. Luckily I chose the right roommate and all went smoothly. He never missed a payment.

Fortunately I now own a home. This is the place every human being should strive for. Although that month to month rental agreement may have looked good at one time, it’s not so sweet when you actually ponder what you get in return. Nothing! Nothing tangible anyway. That month to month rental agreement you concur with and pay toward every month doesn’t get you anywhere. Once you move out, it’s like you’ve been staying in a hotel for a long stretch. You leave with only your belongings. All I have to say is; don’t rent too long. Buying is much wiser!

It’s still a wonderful time to consider buying real estate

Most of us get the experience of living in an apartment before we have the income to actually purchase a home of our own. This certainly is not a bad thing. In all truth, some apartments are quite nice. Furthermore, it’s refreshing to not have to deal with upkeep, lawns, pruning, and property taxes. However, I’m not trying to convince you that renting is preferable to owning. When you rent a place, you never actually acquire anything. There’s no investing involved. It’s basically like having a hotel room for a long period of time. Get the picture? And once you realize this, and are able to change things, you become very interested in buying real estate. That nice little spot of your very own. Once you achieve a real home, you can never revert back to renting an apartment. It suddenly feels throwing money out the window. I’m pretty certain that’s the last thing anyone wants to do.

Finding what’s right for you! Hmm, here in-lies the challenge. I guess it’s simple to choose an area if you’re already stuck in one due to a certain career, or if you’re headed to one for a particular career. That definitely narrows down your options. If this is the case, then you know where you’ll be buying real estate. My advice to you at this point is to surf through your options. This can be easily done on websites such as homes.com. I prefer this website for buying real estate simply because it’s so easy to navigate. God knows that’s refreshing. Anyway, you can select a specific area and price range to search within. This way you’ll see all homes that are currently available in your chosen area. Not to mention, these websites are updated daily and should be checked regularly if you’re in the market.

It’s still a wonderful time to consider buying real estate. The real estate market is currently in your favor as a buyer. Therefore it definitely pays to do plenty of recon work before actually making a purchase. You just may be able to find a home and decent piece of land that you wouldn’t normally be able to afford. So, don’t wait too long. The real estate market will make a full swing in no time. It always does. Then house prices will rise again.

if you are looking for affordable apartments for rent

The difficulty of finding affordable apartments for rent varies greatly depending on where you are looking. I have been living in Southern California for the past six years, and San Diego Apartments for rent can be quite difficult to find at a reasonable rate. Once you find an affordable apartment for rent, you had better stick with it if you live in San Diego, because it will be very hard for you to find a good one again. Don’t get me wrong, there are affordable apartments to rent in San Diego, but most of them are in pretty bad areas. If you find an apartment that is neither rundown, nor in a dangerous part of town, consider yourself lucky. Real estate is at a prime rate right now.

A lot of people I know base their lives around the affordable real estate they find. If they find affordable apartments for rent, or perhaps affordable housing, they stick with it and that is that. Eventually, they will settle down and get a house of their own, but sometimes this takes years or even decades. Nowadays, people live faster than they used to it. They don’t want to stop and think about making long-term investments to settle down. They figure that that will come later in life, so for them, it does.

Of course, the Internet has made things a little better. It can be easier to find affordable apartments online than in other venues. There are websites completely dedicated to finding affordable apartments for rent. Unfortunately, many of these websites charge a fee to subscribe. Fortunately, however, there is craigslist available. Craigslist is one of the best place to find affordable apartments for rent. Anyone who wants to can post ads for free, and anyone else can respond to them. The problem is that there is not a great deal of quality control on Craig’s list. The rule is always buyer beware.

This is why, if you are looking for affordable apartments for rent,  you should always check them out before you actually move on. This might seem obvious to some of you, but you would be amazed by how often people rent an apartment only to find that it is not as good as it looks on paper. There could be problems with the heating, holes in the walls, or even a mold infestation. I have heard too many nightmares stories from naïve people who thought that  they had found the perfect affordable apartment for rent.

What do folks see in celebrity homes?

What would you consider to be your dream home? Would you be satisfied with a simple 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2000 square foot family abode? Or are you thinking more along the lines of celebrity homes. You know the ones that have virtually everything you could possibly imagine. Anything from bowling alleys, to basketball courts, to home movie theaters can be found in these dreamy mansions. I guess I could see why pretty much any human being would love such a wondrous palace. You could definitely keep yourself entertained on a regular basis. But what about the ridiculous costs of celebrity homes. Are you interested in forking out 20 million for a freaking house? That seems absurd to me. Can you even fathom the taxes you’d pay? It would be an utter nightmare.

What do folks see in celebrity homes? Well, clearly they see something unattainable because they have a show called “Cribs” on MTV every week. That is what this show focuses on. You get to take a five minute tour through celebrity homes. Each episode reveals someone new. Whether it be a pro football player, a famous actress or a supermodel, these folks certainly have some expensive homes. Maybe a little too expensive. If I remember correctly, Aaron Spelling had the most lavish and massive home I’d ever heard of. I believe it was 56,000 square feet. That is crazy! What would you even do with such a house? Most of us steer more toward a 2-3000 square foot home. I definitely can’t imagine residing in something that is over 50 thousand square feet. It’s like your very own town. I immediately wondered what all was in this home to make it so gargantuan. Do they have their own shopping center inside? Well, it is Aaron Spelling we’re talking about here.

Out of all the celebrity homes you’ve ever seen, which one do you like the most? I honestly can’t answer this question. I have seen quite a few on television and the Internet, but couldn’t tell you which one reigns supreme. Basically when it comes to celebrity homes, I don’t see the point. I can’t imagine I would spend 20 million on a home even if I had it. That just seems like too much. Plus there’s the fact that many of these celebrities later don’t get work, and sadly end up losing their homes. That would be a bummer.

When looking for affordable apartments

Affordable Apartments

If you are looking for a new place to live, and you are not yet ready to buy a home, you are probably going to be on the lookout for affordable apartments in your area. What makes an apartment affordable, however, will differ from family to family. You may need to spend as little as possible on the rent, or you may want something in a certain part of town so you can save money on transportation to and from work. You may also need certain things that you know will save you money in the long run.

For us, for example, we need an apartment that has enough room, but we must also have a washing machine and dryer. I will not consider an apartment that does not have one. Even though I consider the place I live in now affordable, I would not pay as much as I do if I did not have washer and dryer to use. The cost to run those things is far less than what I would spend at that Laundromat. You may find that if you want affordable apartments that are as cheap as you can get, you aren’t going to have the luxury of a washer in your place.

When looking for affordable apartments, remember to consider the neighborhood. I am lucky that I live in a good area, and much of the small city I live in is indeed ideal for almost everyone. There are areas where there are more problems though, and I won’t rent there. If you go to the next city over from where I live you will find plenty of affordable apartments, but you won’t want to live where they are located. These areas are known for crime, and are often ‘featured’ on the local news.

When looking for affordable apartments, make sure you consider why some of them seem to be overly affordable. If they are in a decent neighborhood yet the price seems to good to be true, there is probably a reason for that. We had a great lead in a great neighborhood, and we were amazed at the price. We found out why it was so inexpensive rather quickly when we went to see it. Though it was one of the most affordable apartments we looked at, we could not live. There. My husband is six foot two, and the ceilings were six foot high!

Big houses cost more all the way around too

big houses

When in college, I cleaned houses to pay my way though. It was not a bad job, or at least, not as bad as it sounds. It paid the bills though, and allowed me to see some really amazing places. Though there aren’t many perks when working as a maid, that is one of the biggest ones. I saw some of the best big houses in the city, and it seemed there was no end to them. Each was as great inside as the next, and some were very surprising. It’s amazing how some with money can hide out in a less than desirable neighborhood without giving away how much money they have, at least from the outside. You would never know.

One thing about working as a maid that bothers me is that I lost my will to clean now. It’s been a long time since I did it, but I swear I used up my cleaning allowance all in two years. I have always thought I wanted to have big houses, but now I’m not so sure. I have a hard time keeping up with what I have now, and if I had a big house, I think I would be overwhelmed. Though finances are okay, I can’t see myself hiring maids any time soon.

That is just one consideration someone has to think about when deciding if they want to look at big houses or not. Some don’t mind cleaning, and if they think they have the time for a big house cleaning all of the time, then perhaps that would not bother them. Some with larger families have no choice, but even then, they have more help in that department. Room is another consideration. There is nothing more wonderful than having room for all of your stuff.

Big houses cost more all the way around too. Heating and electric bills are higher, and so is the upkeep. If the big house needs to be painted, it just costs more in material and labor. More furniture is needed, and that means more things like sheets and towels. However, those things don’t bother some, and they love the fact that they live in a very large home. Though many wouldn’t consider this something to think about, it will be one thing I will ponder when we finally buy our own home. This might be one time when size does indeed matter.

Big houses cost more all the way around too
